A private mansion built for an IBM founder, now a boutique luxury hotel with named suites, in-room spa products, and a presidential namesake of its own.
Traditions Hotel & Spa isn't a chain property with a nice lobby — it's a restored historic estate where the suites have names, stories, and four-poster beds to match. Old-fashioned yet modern, elegant yet charming: this is luxury for the traveler who wants serenity and sophistication, not just a higher room category.
View Suites & BookA handful of details set Traditions apart from the upscale chain hotels in the region.
Built in the early 20th century as a private residence, later owned by Thomas Watson, founder of IBM.
Each suite carries the name and history of the people who once lived here.
Luxurious products sourced directly from our state-of-the-art spa facilities, in every suite.
Period antique touches throughout, not generic "boutique" furniture.
A 4-star championship course and full-service spa, both a short walk from your room.
A small, characterful property — not a 300-room conference hotel.
Every named suite at Traditions carries a piece of the property's history — and each is outfitted with Keurig coffee makers, complimentary WiFi, guest robes and slippers, an in-room safe, and luxurious products straight from our spa.
The dream suite for a couple's romantic getaway — an oversized room with a king four-poster bed, gas fireplace, sitting area, jacuzzi, and a private terrace overlooking the Susquehanna River Valley.
This stately, generously sized suite suits the busy executive or the adventurous couple equally well — a king four-poster bed, gas fireplace, and private terrace overlooking the river valley, with easy access to golf, hiking, and the Salt Sanctuary.
This elegant, antique-filled room features a king four-poster bed, gas fireplace, spacious closet, and separate soaking tub — a genuine step back in time.
A separate living room (suited to a small meeting or planning session by day) alongside a private bedroom with a king bed and sofa sleeper for additional guests — the same spa-grade in-room amenities as the rest of the suite collection.
Before it was a hotel, this was a private estate — built in the early 1900s and later owned by Thomas Watson, the founder of IBM. President Eisenhower himself once stayed in one of the suites that now bears his name. That history is part of what you're booking: rooms with real architectural character, period details, and a sense of place that a newly built luxury hotel simply can't replicate.

The property is beautiful, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful with any and all needs. The room we had was perfect, a king bed, fireplace & at the end of the hall with no one around us.
The rooms are spacious and the tavern is a great place to have a drink overlooking the valley. The hotel is spacious and is very unique.
Our rooms were lovely! Overall very clean. The view from the rooms breathtaking.
Named suites are limited — there's only one Jeanette Watson Suite, one Eisenhower Suite, one Thomas Watson Suite. If a specific suite matters to your trip (an anniversary in the Jeanette Watson, a work trip with room to spread out in the Homestead), it's worth booking ahead.
